iDon’t Know, But This TV Spot Is Hot: Verizon + Google = Droid

Verizon and Google release the heavily anticipated Droid phone on Friday. It’s been hard not to notice the cute little iDon’t TV spots pointing out selective iPhone limitations. But have you seen the ultra-hot TV spot that recently started running? It features stealth bombers…and well, what else would you expect from Google and Verizon?
While previous mobile phones have tried, as early adopters watched closely, to steal marketshare from the iPhone – they have come and gone. The Droid may be a game-changer, and Verizon and Google have their marketing geniuses who strategically developed a media campaign hitting the sweet spot demo – no ‘clean’ creative and sanitized branding like Apple. Instead, these TV spots are edgy, hyper-contemporary technologically urban bullets. (How is that for a visual? When you see the TV spot with the stealth bombers above, you will see what we mean.) The campaign is definitely focused on a counterweight to Apple’s branding and positioning.

Mobile Phone Wars
And the launch couldn’t come at a better time – AT&T, the exclusive carrier of the iPhone, has been struggling to service iPhone users claiming that it is because they have the most data-driven mobile users of any network and this causes the stress on the system resulting in slow speeds. Well, it isn’t a very comforting response to current users, who just want to hear that they are going to improve it. And what about those “There’s a map for that.” commercials showing maps of the US: Verizon’s coverage is so much more significant than the AT&T map that it almost looks like AT&T is just starting out.
Rumors that AT&T will lose exclusivity of the iPhone in 2010 are gaining more and more traction. Apple has to realize they will have everything to gain, and keep, by opening the iPhone to other service providers. We love the iPhone, and welcome the Droid…can’t we all just get along? Nevermind, we prefer the great commercials.
Friday is D-day..here comes the result of Verizon + Google…the new Droid mobile phone.
